Overview

On 19th December 2022, the students of BSc (Hons) in Construction Project Management at BIET had the valuable opportunity to visit one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic construction projects – the Altair Tower in Colombo. The visit served as a practical extension of their academic learning, allowing students to witness the real-world complexities and innovations involved in high-rise construction.


Purpose of the Visit

The primary aim of the field visit was to provide students with a firsthand understanding of advanced construction techniques, project management practices, and the logistical challenges faced during large-scale developments. It was designed to bridge classroom theories with real industry practices.


Learning Experience

During the tour, students were guided through various aspects of the project including structural systems, project timelines, quality assurance methods, and sustainable construction practices. They also gained insights into project coordination, material management, safety protocols, and the use of modern construction technology on-site.


Highlights

The Altair Tower, known for its unique architectural design and engineering marvel, offered an excellent case study in modern construction. Students observed the collaboration between architects, engineers, and project managers, gaining practical knowledge that complements their academic curriculum.
