Modules In This Higher Diploma

Electrical Technology

Power or electricity is what keeps most of electronics alive. This module covers the calculation of power, energy, and the fundamentals of how it is generated and transmitted.

Analogue Electronics

Before there was digital, all electronics communicated with continuously variable signals. This is called analogue. While most systems are digital these days, it is still important to remember the traditional.

Digital Circuits

After understanding analogue, digital circuits will be explored. These signals behave differently and are programmed and controlled differently. Analogue circuits will then have to be adapted to the digital world and design circuits with MultiSIM

Introduction to Programming

Coding translates instructions to electronics . There are many languages out there but few engineers stray far from the core of the C-language. This will cover the basics, through to data, input and output, control, arrays, and database language.

Project Management

Companies are now becoming more project-based than ever and people are expected to lead or function as part of a project team. This module will provides the skills and covers a wide variety of tools that every young technical profession should know, from conceptualization to closure of any projects.

Microcontrollers, Sensors, Actuators

This module will Introduce the Arduino microcontroller . This may no be exactly the same from the industry standard but it’s a great versatile piece of kit to start with. Attach it to sensors and actuators to learn how to make prototypes.

Engineering Mathematics

Engineering math is the language of engineers. This module covers differentiation, integration, complex numbers, matrix and determinatnts, differential equations, fourier, and power series.

Electronics Group Project

Work in a group to design a working prototype . Create a project specification and participate in individual roles with time scales, and tasks. By the end of the module each group should have a working prototype to demonstrate.

Engineering Mathematics 2

Building on the previous base of mathematics, this will go further and cover Fourier transforms, laplace, Z-transforms, and linear differential equations.

Students undertake an internship at the end of this first course to ensure that they have a strong understanding of the demands of the work place. Internships are recommended to take place in Singapore and should last between 4 and 6 months.

Career Opportunities

  • Perform electronics system and component diagnostic, trouble shooting and repair work
  • Able to read and understand schematic wiring diagrams
  • Perform field service work
  • Able to understand electronics failure
  • Devise preventive maintenance procedures and plan for all equipment, in accordance to equipment requirements as recommended by vendors / suppliers.
  • Procurement of parts and/or securing of services for preventive or breakdown maintenance works where applicable.
  • Implement preventive maintenance work independently and/or with a team.
  • Assist in process pre and post operations e.g. chemical mixing, equipment and lab upkeep.
  • Assist in operation of processes, e.g. membrane and module fabrication.
  • Assist Engineer in monitoring process performance and trouble-shooting process related issues
  • Assist Engineer in conducting process related evaluations such as samples making, measurement and data collection
